Yesterday I read about a Tori LaConsay who had painted a beautiful simple message on a billboard "You look Nice Today" with a heart below; which folk would drive by. I learnt how a huge retail chain are accused of copying her painted message on pillowcases, door mats etc. It looks the same to me, the retail version compared to Tori's. In my version from my sketchbook; I've at least tweaked it and replaced the word "Nice" with "Lovely". Reet now I need a nice cup of tea and a sit down...

Apologies readers over the last week or so I've been ill. Certainly for the last four days I've been in bed recuperating; but fear not I'm on the mend. Today I've learnt of the passing of Ronald Searle his creative output was amazing and truly one of the greatest illustrators. While ill in bed over the last few days I've not felt like doing a deal; but I did flick threw a copy of Father Christmas by Raymond Briggs another great artist there's plenty of drawings in that book which make me smile even when I felt rubbish. I'm looking forward to this new year getting involved with new projects, bike rides and hopefully getting better at what I do....

Last night I attended Out of the Saddle '3", with Russell and Dean Downing, it was a great night which was all about raising money for CRY "Cardiac Risk in the young. I'm pleased to say my Tour de France print donation raised a chunk of money in the auction and is going to a good home, it will look reet handsome on that gents wall. It was great to see some big names from the cycling world attending. I look forward to the next one...

Today I've been drawing Father Christmas been out in the cold on my bike, chuckled to myself at least twice and seen a kestrel up close as it hovered by the roadside, which was great to watch. Here are some photos from my mate dan of Devote associates taken at the Pause / Play show at the Mash Gallery at St Helens organized by Cultivate Creative. At least one person looked at my work and admired the framing by my mate Smiley Dave. My piece is based on a Seal track, don't chuckle when I hit secondary school in 91 he was cool. On hearing the Seal track from one of his newer albums it reminded me of a black and white photo; which I'd ripped out of a magazine and have retained for over ten years on a pin board. The image is one of my faves and conjures up romance in NYC. I've been twice and still haven't found it....

Cycling earlier in the rain I noticed this chap who had this really black beard and it really looked odd with his complexion and perhaps the age of his skin being a chap in his 50s. It looked fake; perhaps he had dyed it, who knows. I did early doors clock a fox on the brow of a field plus a rat ran out at me and almost went under the front wheel, that's twice that has happened to me in about a month.

I've been reading the Bear Grylls biography and it makes interesting reading about the SAS selection process he went through. Over the years I've read books about the cycling legends that tackle the Tour De France, the men who walk 100 miles in one go and books about men that row the English channel in a bath tub. I'm interested by those that push themselves to these extremes not sure what that says about me; answers on a postcard please.

The other night I watched "To Hull And Back" a classic Only Fools and Horses episode; I'd not seen it in years but it still made me chuckle and I'd not seen an episode with Del Boy in a long while so it felt fun. Yesterday I went for a wander around York and browsed some of the second hand bookshops. I did get myself a another book on cycling to digest; but before I read that one I'm gonna digest "Blood Knots" by Luke Jennings a book on fishing, friendship and growing up it's all nostalgia; throw in snippets of romance it will be great reading with a brew or two. One year from today and the London Olympics 2012 get under way; That will soon come around I'm quite sure. I read earlier that Bradley Wiggins is gonna attempt both the Tour de France, then go straight into the the Olympic camp. That man has unfinished business on the TDF and I hope he fulfills it. I'm hoping next year; I can be in Paris next year to see that drama unfold along with thousands of others...

Well over the weekend I visited Paris to see the end of the Tour de France; which I thoroughly enjoyed. History was made by that man Mark Cavendish the first Briton to win the green jersey. I ate some good food even breaking away from consuming Burger and chips for a little while. I saw some great artworks, market stalls and attractive ladies along the way on my Tour. The French they love there wine, millions of bottles must have been supped that weekend in Paris. By eck; I missed having a brew or two over them few days.

Climb

Well todays stage on the TDF should be a belter; with that mountain they have to climb and some snow may be on the cards. I shall be interested to see who gets up that mountain first today. I'm thinking the Schleck's may do a old "One, two and make a snowman", up that mountain today.

Everyone is either going on a holiday or been on one; it seems when I'm bumping into folk around Costa Del Doncaster. I got caught up in some rain on my bike first thing, but them lads on the TDF tomorrow may see some signs of snow on that big mountain they have to tackle. Well yesterday it just rained a lot in my neck of the woods. My dad announced musically he only likes "SeaSick BoB", I couldn't be bothered to correct him and waste time. I did enjoy yesterday's stage of the TDF, it was good to see young Swifty finish inside the top ten. I think we shall see good things from man from South Yorkshire over the next few years in the TDF.
