This evening I've been looking at books I would like to read. I've even been looking at some clothes. There's a jacket out there I would like for the cold snap. Its just a matter of weeks until September and the dark nights. But before all that I need a brew.

Here are some photos which my mate phil drury took on sunday, when he was clearly in Paris to see the final stage of le tour de france. I wish I'd gone. Wiggo is pictured above with a beer. Lance Armstrong is pictured riding the bike, which that man damien hirst had covered in butterflies.

I was quite intrigued to read that novelist Magnus Mills 55 from London whose books I've enjoyed is still working shifts as a bus driver. When his book The Restraint of Beasts got shortlisted for the booker prize in 1998 he quit driving buses. But he likes having a day job and can only write it turns out when he as no apparent spare time.

Well readers, I have a collection of books I'm trying to read but I bought a copy of Alain de Botton's Essays In love on thursday, which I've been engrossed with. The man cannot write a bad sentence. I believe every person in a relationship or confused by the topic of love should read this book as it says on the reverse of the book. I've not been gripped by a book in ages, Its a great read.

Well readers on a personal level my legs ache from cycling. Heavens know how them lads feel in le tour. It will be interesting to see if Lance Armstrong or Alberto makes a move in the next two days. This morning I have to admit Tom Gauld's illustration in todays Guardian Review section made me chuckle, I love that one sir. I also learn they have made my second fave Roald Dahl book into an animation. I look forward to seeing "Fantastic Mr Fox" on the big screen.

Al Heighton features in the forth coming book "Made And Sold" published by Laurence King in October 2009, designed and written by Fl@33. There are some talented creatives in there including Peepshow collective, Airside, Andy Smith, Kate Sutton and many more.
Looking out the rectangle window the sun is already out big time. Readers wear your sunblock once more. My tan is looking dodgy. Good luck to Dom trevett and Mcfaul on there bike riding in the french Alps today. Bring on le Tour. The bike frames designed by leading artists for Lance Armstrong will be interesting to see in this years Le Tour.

Earlier on a walk to the post office I was taken with some bubblegum the shape of it smeared on a baking hot pavement. Just thought I'd share that with you. I'm on the cold pop trail big time at my end. A quick look at the papers I see the masses are hitting Brighton beach and other coastal destinations in the Uk.
